What a sign pairing can and cannot tell you
A sign page compares two Sun signs. The Western side looks at their elements and at the angle the signs make across the zodiac, where a trine tends to feel easy and a square tends to feel tense. On the Vedic side each sign has a lord, and whether those two planets are natural friends is one of the eight kootas used in kundli matching, as is the distance between the signs, called Bhakoot.
Tradition reads those kootas from each person's Moon sign, and the other four need the Moon's nakshatra, so a Sun sign pairing is a first look rather than a verdict. The number beside each pairing is the average of its Western and Vedic scores, and each page explains how both were worked out.
