Two skies, one you.

Crescent reads your real birth chart two ways at once. The Western side is tropical, measured from the seasons. The Vedic side is sidereal, measured from the fixed stars. They disagree about which sign your Sun sits in, and that disagreement is the point: each one answers a different kind of question, and you get to see both instead of being told only one is real.

Every position comes from real ephemeris maths for the exact moment and place you were born, not from a sun-sign lookup. When a reading tells you something, it can point at the placement it came from.

Where the numbers come from

Positions are computed from a modern ephemeris for the exact date, time and coordinates of a birth, then converted to the sidereal zodiac with the Lahiri ayanamsa for the Vedic side. Houses, aspects, dashas and the panchang are calculated the same way. Nothing is drawn from a lookup table of sun-sign paragraphs, which is why the two systems in Crescent can disagree with each other on your screen: they are each doing their own arithmetic rather than dressing up one answer twice.

Birth time matters more than most people expect. A four minute error moves the ascendant by roughly one degree, and near a sign boundary that changes the rising sign outright. Where a time is missing or rounded, Crescent says so rather than presenting a confident chart built on a guess.

How the Journal is written

The Journal exists to explain the mechanics: why sites disagree about your rising sign, what a divisional chart is actually for, how Vedic timing works. Pieces are written and edited by the team at Mistiq LLC, published on a schedule rather than in bulk, and each one is meant to answer a real question end to end instead of restating a definition.

We get things wrong sometimes. When we do, the fix goes on the page itself rather than being quietly removed. If you find an error, please tell us.

How to take it

Crescent is for reflection and entertainment. It is not a substitute for professional advice, and nothing here should stand in for a doctor, a therapist, a lawyer or a financial adviser. Astrology is not a science, and we do not present it as one. What the app can honestly claim is that the astronomy underneath it is computed correctly, and that it will always show you the placement a statement came from so you can judge it yourself. Read it as a prompt to think with, and make your own decisions.
