Planets in signs and houses

A birth chart is a snapshot of where the planets stood at the moment you were born. Each one stands for a part of you. The Moon is what you need to feel safe. Venus is what you love. The sign it sat in describes the manner, and the house describes the part of life where it shows up most.

The pages below take one placement at a time and describe it the way you would notice it in an ordinary week: how you love and work, and where you tend to get stuck. Each one reads the placement in both traditions Crescent uses. Western astrology measures signs from the seasons, while Vedic astrology measures them from the stars, and the two zodiacs now sit about twenty four degrees apart, so your Venus can be in Taurus in one system and in Aries in the other. Every sign page lists the dates the planet spends in that sign in both zodiacs, worked out from an ephemeris rather than copied from a table.

Rahu and Ketu are the Moon's nodes, which Western astrologers call the North and South Node. The three outer planets were found with telescopes long after the classical texts were written, so Vedic astrology leaves them out. Read these pages as a tradition and a mirror for reflection rather than a forecast. To see which placements are yours, make your birth chart or your kundli.
