Gemini: what your sign actually means

Your Gemini traits, the caricature you have been sold, and what changes when you read it the Vedic way.

What is a Gemini?

If you were born roughly 21 May to 20 June, your Sun is in Gemini. That single fact gets stretched into a personality test, and it should not be. Here is what it actually says.

Gemini is mutable air, ruled by Mercury, symbolised by the twins, and it naturally governs the third house. Those four facts do more work than any trait list.

  • Element: air — thought and connection
  • Modality: mutable — you adapt things
  • Ruler: Mercury
  • Natural house: the third

What are Gemini really like?

Mutable air is information in motion. The third house is immediate communication and the short journey, so Gemini is the part of a chart that gathers, connects and relays rather than the part that decides.

Is the Gemini stereotype true?

You have read that Gemini is two faced, shallow, cannot commit. That is not invented, but it describes the failure mode, not the sign. It is like calling a knife "dangerous": true, and useless.

What is the Gemini dark side?

Breadth without depth. The genuine risk is knowing a little about everything and mistaking that for understanding, plus a restlessness that reads as disloyalty when it is really boredom.

What does Gemini look like at its best?

The connector who has read the thing everyone else only cited, and who can explain a hard idea to someone who does not share the vocabulary.

A tell worth more than a trait list. Count the tabs. More seriously: a strong Gemini can change position mid-argument when given better information, which most people cannot do.

Is your chart actually Gemini?

Why does my Vedic sign say something different?

Because Vedic astrology measures from the stars and Western astrology measures from the seasons. The two have drifted about 24 degrees apart, so most people move back one sign.

If you are Gemini in a Western chart, you are often the sign before it in a Vedic one. Gemini is ruled by Budha there, and a Vedic reading judges the sign through the condition of that ruler and the period you are running, rather than through sign character alone.

Why your sign changes between systems. The gap between the tropical and sidereal rings is currently about 24 degrees, which is most of a whole sign.

What if Gemini has never sounded like me?

Then something else in your chart is louder, and that is normal rather than a failure of astrology. Your Moon sign describes what you need, your rising sign describes how you come across, and either can drown out the Sun.

It is checkable rather than a matter of opinion. Cast the whole chart and look.
