Because Vedic astrology measures from the stars and Western astrology measures from the seasons. The two have drifted about 24 degrees apart, so most people move back one sign.
If you are Taurus in a Western chart, you are often the sign before it in a Vedic one. Taurus is ruled by Shukra there, and a Vedic reading judges the sign through the condition of that ruler and the period you are running, rather than through sign character alone.
What if Taurus has never sounded like me?
